Sunday 29th of September saw Bedale & Aiskew Runners (BAR) host a 5k & 1 mile Fun Run in aid of the Halcyon Trust. The setting was Bedale Park and the picturesque Keepers walk, biblical conditions were forecast and the fear was there would be a poor turnout. Fortunately the weather gods relented slightly and both races were run in reasonable conditions. Fundraisers are normally classed as a friendly affair but competition was fierce amongst the BAR elite. First home for BAR was Will Retchless in 20:18 2nd overall, James Bartram followed in 20:54 3rd overall, Chris lees who was heavily involved in the organisation of the race managed to squeeze the run in and finished 4th overall in 21:22, Ben Smith 5th in 21:40, Paul McGee 8th in 23:28, Matt Randell 9th in 23:44.
1st Female was the ever improving Rebecca Smith 10th overall in 23:48, 2nd Female was Matilda Ellis 12th overall in 23:59 although a Richmond & Zetland Harrier she proudly donned a BAR vest for this worthy cause. Club veteran Paul Bainbridge had a great run on this tough coarse finishing in 25:40, others runners who braved the weather are Stuart McLaren, Paul Grayson, Tracy Snowdon, Allison Grayson, Jenifer Wilkin, Jodie Mechan, Franky Teer, Mark Temple, Jude Newell, Tracy Byers, Katie Bamber, Karen Banks, Amy Walker, Tony Wheeldon, Karen Theaker, Claire Rogers, Philippa Kermotschuk, Beth Capel, Helen Banks, Christine Close, Ruth Hancock, Gemma Wardle.
In the 1 Mile Fun Run we had over 30 pairs of little legs and a couple at the other end of the spectrum. Fun was had by all and there was certainly some future athletes among them.
