The Championship run this last weekend was Catterick Parkrun a massive total of 21 Bedale & Aiskew Runners (BAR) members turned out to the fast 3 lap course. 11 members racing away with Personal Best’s (PB’s); Chris Lees, James Bartram, Kev Gaskell, Henry Anderson, Ann Harrington, Claire Temple, Nigel Haresign, Kay Kelly, Katie Watson, Claire Rogers and Sam Craggs. Several other BAR members did a little bit of Parkrun tourism to local Parkruns at Northallerton and Darlington. Fountains Abbey returned PB’s for Jude & Stephen Newall and Harrogate brought PB’s for Karen Theaker, Ruth Hancock, Gemma Wardle. A total of 31 BAR members at Parkrun events and 16 PB’s, congratulations everyone.
In other events BAR members were out on the flats of the Vale of York Half Marathon, starting and finishing just outside Wistow, taking in scenic closed roads to the south of York towards Selby. Raymond Lightle finished in 1:53:12 and Michelle Dinsdale in 2:45:48.
BAR members where taking on ultra-long distances. Stuart Black took on the Hardmoors 60, starting in Guisborough following the Cleveland Way out to the coast at Saltburn passing through Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar and Scarborough along cliff tops and coastal paths to finish in Filey. The competitors started at 8am with 18 hours to complete the gruelling 62 miles. The weather was warm with a slight breeze helping Stuart to finish in a fantastic 15:56:17.
Sunday was the Blacksheep 3 & 6 hour Challenge, on a circular route around Masham. Runners completed the circuit as many times within the 3 or 6 hour cut off. BAR member Tony Clark completed a total distance of 33.5miles in 5:58:21 and BAR 2nd claim member Lena Conlin completed her 94th marathon finishing 26.8miles in 6:15:40.
In challenges of a different kind Helen Banks braved the obstacle scaling heights and electric shocks along with water mud and bog of Yorkshire Warrior, Ripley Castle with a huge sense of fulfilment on completing.
