Darlington 10k

Many Bedale and Aiskew Runners (BAR) took on the Darlington 10k this last weekend with its combination of fantastic support and a fairly flat course, it is one of the fastest 10k races on the calendar. The conditions were also perfect: despite the threat of heavy rain, strong winds and even baking sun, the race started with an overcast sky and cool but gentle breeze. When the rain came, it too was light and refreshing.

The start was its usual melee as the 1,500+ runners made their way up Houndgate and Coniscliffe Rd before beginning the two laps that make up the bulk of the course. Spectators lined the streets for almost the whole course, and nearer to town were three deep cheering everyone on.

The “gentle undulations” tested the legs and caused the runners to dig deep for the last kilometre down Skinnergate, Bondgate and on to High Row for a noisy finish to the cheers of the crowd and commentary from TFM radio.
