Burn Valley half marathon

In a hot Championship challenge several BAR members took on the gruelling route of the Burn Valley half, one of the most scenic races in the calendar. Starting in Masham the gateway to Wensleydale, heading through the grounds of Swinton Castle on picturesque roads. Up. towards Leighton along the River Burn climbing Rigg Bank and Keld Bank before returning through Healey and Fearby to finish in Masham Market Square. It was a day for personal bests (PB’s); Paul Berry finished in a course PB of 1:36:37, Paul Simpson in 1:38:00, and second claim BAR member Nicola Simpson in 1:41:52 for 3rd in the W40 category. Other BAR members running; Tony Clark 1:58:47 and Raymond Lightle 2:02:17.


Claire Temple took part in the Great North 10k, heading under the iconic Tyne Bridge and heading along to the Sage Gateshead before heading back along the Quayside before finishing with a lap of the Gateshead International Stadium track. Claire finished with a 10k PB of 57:58.

Twelve BAR members attended local Parkrun’s, many of them at the notably quick Catterick Parkrun. This proved to be the case for 4 member achieving PB’s at Catterick; Joanne Sinnott in 32:41, Caroline Pounder in 29:44, Jude Newell in 29:46, and Ann Harrington 26.33.
