Bedale and Aiskew Runners (BAR) club members organised a social club run, getting the Wensleydale Railway up to Redmire then running an 18 mile trail route home to Bedale via Leyburn, Cover Bridge, Finghall, and Newton-le-Willows. In cool conditions with a slight breeze excellent for running in, 18 members took a steady run with regular meeting places to refuel en-route arriving back with tired legs to food and celebrations.
In other events the BAR club chairman Paul Ellis travelled to the warm climate of Lanzarote for the brutal Ironman Lanzarote 2019. The sea was extremely rough for the 2.4 mile swim, the wind continued to be an issue on the bike for the 112 miles and finished with a hot 26.2 mile run. Paul completed the swim in 1:29:01, bike in 7:37:15 and run in 3:38:35 a total 13:27:51 of effort, well done.
Relative new BAR member Matt Randall took on the challenge of a new experience in The Yomp Mountain Challenge. The half Yomp a 11.5 miles over some rough terrain with 2000 feet of climbing, starting at Kirkby Stephen Grammer School. Heading out of town past Wharton Hall then across the fells to the top of Tailbridge Hill, and on to the final ascent of Nine Standards then downhill to Kirkby Stephen. Matt finished with a stunning performance to be 5th out of 113 in 1:56:17.
Several BAR members were out at the local Catterick Parkrun, Samantha Craggs ran in 33:52, John Hunter in 29:40, Raymond Lightle in 24:59, Jess Mallinson in a personal best of 29:45, Matt Randall in 23:23, Joanne Sinnott in 33:14, James Wigglesworth in 34:47 & Joanne Wigglesworth in 34:46. Paul Bainbridge being a Parkrun tourist running at Rutland Water in 23:33.
