Bedale and Aiskew Runners (BAR) club members were taking part in events last weekend.
Six BAR members ran the challenging and very hilly Hamsterley Forest 10k, along woodland paths and forest trails being rewarded with beautiful views of the forest and North Pennines. Matt Randall a relative newcomer to running came home in 14th place overall in a field of nearly 250 runners, in a PB of 44:53 an amazing feat especially on this course with 700ft of climb.
Matt pipped his coach, Chris Lees, who finished in 19th place overall and first place in his age category in 45.57. Raymond Lightle came in next in 102nd place in 55:33. Katie Watson and Alison Barron came in together in 173rd and 174th and 1:04:01 and 1:04:01 respectively, and Jess Mallinson finished in 201st place in 1:06:48.
The BAR chairman Paul Ellis took on the touch challenge of The Fellsman. A high level route covering more than 60 miles of rugged moorland, with 11,000 feet of climbs on the route from Ingleton to Threshfield in the Yorkshire Dales. In challenging wet and freezing conditions high on the fells, Paul took on the brutal race completing in 18:25:12 an amazing achievement.
Other members took on the annual challenge of the Virgin London Marathon, running through the streets of London in carnival spirit and support along the way. BAR member Andy Gibb completed in 4:29:13 and 2nd claim member Nicola Simpson in an amazing time of 3:42:09.
Parkrun highlights, BAR members were running close to home and further afield with some Parkrun tourism at Greenwich, London for Paul Simpson running in 20:48 and Nicola Simpson on a little pre-marathon warm up in 28:10. Closer to home at Catterick Anne Johnson ran in 27:47 and Rita Berry in 31:04, with Paul Bainbridge running at Darlington in a time of 23:27.
