A sunny day for the Northallerton 10k the race started on the High Street before heading out of town on to rural lanes for a single loop before finishing under the Town Hall. Great conditions for some quick times 1st BAR members home were Will Retchless in 41:25 followed closely by James Batram in 41:41. Kevin Gaskell finished in 43:07, Matt Randall in 43:29 striding out ahead of coach Chris Lees in 44:42, Ben Smith 44:57, Paul Bainbridge finished 1st in the M70 category in 50:59. Leading the ladies home Julie Giblin in 56:20, Katie Watson 1:00:27, Jess Mallinson 1:02:14 continuing her progress, Sue & Tony Wheeldon in 1:11:09.
A warm windy day for the 35th Melmerby 10k Road Race, setting off from Melmerby Village around undulating roads through picturesque village returning to the finish in Melmerby. A fast scenic route leading to some fabulous times; Jason Ashford off like a bullet finished in 40:44, followed by Paul Simpson 42:36, Tony Clark 49:32, Chris Pritchard 50:44, Raymond Lightle 51:49, Marian Hunter 1:00:39, John Hunter 1:01:07, Ken Mountain 1:04:36. BAR 2nd claim member continuing her super streak; Nicola Simpson celebrated a personal best (PB) in 44:32 and 2nd in her age category.
In other events BAR 2nd claim member Lena Conlin took on the challenge of the Asics Windermere Marathon. One of a handful of marathons run entirely within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 975 people took part in the 13th ASICS Windermere Marathon, setting off from the front lawn of Brathay Hall. The 26.2 mile course is a demanding anti-clockwise route around England’s largest lake via Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside. The weather was cool and overcast with some dampness in the air, perfect for running. Lena crossed the finish line in 4:56:18 with the sun amidst a carnival atmosphere, in the grounds of Brathay Hall.
In the Sunderland Strollers Pier to Pier, Raymond Lightle took the scenic route with 1288 others from the beach at South Shields Pier along the cliff paths past Marsden Rock and Souter Lighthouse. Re-joining the beach at Whitburn and finishing at Roker Pier in Sunderland, Raymond finished in 58:56.
