Bedale & Aiskew Runners (BAR) took the opportunity to support a local Parkrun at Catterick with organisation and volunteers to help host the event. Parkrun offers a positive, healthy, friendly, community environment every Saturday morning free of charge encouraging activity – run or walk your choice!
A fabulous carnival environment was created with loads of support and motivation from the marshals around the course, those in the finish area and spectators alike.
Numbers in the field of participants were swollen by the presence of approximately 100 Gurkhas training locally and supporting this event with great spirit. A total of 310 competitors crossed the finish line.
This event also signified the end of a program for some new BAR members who have just completed a Couch to 5k program under the watchful eye and motivational support of the BAR coaches led by Chris Lees. Nine participants celebrated the completion of their program with this Parkrun; Sarah Redfearn 27:42, Amy Campbell 40:44, Samantha Craggs 35:15, Wendy Kelvin 33:42, Jude Newell 31:14, Polly Oldacres 32:47, Caroline Pounder 31:29, Nicky Tucker 39:02, Joanne Wigglesworth 36:13. What’s next?
A massive thanks to the pacers – Jamie Berry, Matt Randall, Julie Giblin, and Rita Berry – and tail-walkers Michelle Dinsdale and Karen McNairn. Also thanks to those who marshalled and tussled with the barcode scanners to get everyone recorded, great team effort.
