Runners have been out at Championship races accelerating their chances this season. At Fountains 10k, an undulating multi-terrain course leaving Grantley village before heading over Galphay Moor through the ‘puddle of mud’ returning by road up the ‘hill of pain’ finishing with an nice curving sprint (if there is anything left!) onto the school field. Seven runners were out from BAR; Matt Randall continuing his PB streak with a 43:07, joining him was Paul Simpson with a PB and a massive 3 minutes off his course time from 2018 finishing in 42:53. Will Retchless joining then with a stunning PB of 39:30 finishing 13th out of 438 runners, also bringing home fantastic times Kevin Gaskell in 43:34, Louise Baker in 58:03, Alison Barron in 59:29 and Jess Mallinson 1:04:52. Nicola Simpson finished 1st in the female over 40 in an impressive 46:17.
Three BAR members took on the 3 stage challenge of the Outlaw Half Triathlon near Nottingham. A 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run. First timers at triathlon discipline Paul Berry came home in 5:29:00 and Chris Lees in 6:04:15, with Ben Smith finishing in 5:46:15.
Saturday 18th May Parkrun, Matt Randall and Jess Mallinson took on volunteering roles pacing, supporting others to achieve their goals, while another of the current Couch to 5k program members Jane Wilkinson achieved an early 5k in 30:03.
