The Burn Valley half marathon has some testing climbs to encounter, and with the hot weather conditions was not to be taken lightly. Five runners from the Bedale and Aiskew Club lined up with over 220 other athletes. Paul Berry had a storming run to finish first club member in a time of 1 hour 42 minutes and 54 seconds and 42nd place overall. After the recent AGM, new club Treasurer Paul Simpson was next to finish in 1-45.36 and 54th overall. Nicola Simpson, who is running really well at present finished 75th overall in 1-51.26 and 3rd out of 27 in the W40 age group. Raymond Lightle does not miss many weekends without racing and this was no exception having competed in the Catterick 5K Parkrun the day before in a fabulous time of 21.59. Raymond finished the half marathon in 1-57.48 for 102nd overall, followed by Phil Johnston in 2-09.29 and 145th. Second claim members Isobel Starkey recorded 2-04.48 for 126th and Lena Conlin 2-13.02 for 151st.
The previous weekend an event at Bramham Park in Leeds called the Mizuno Endure 24 took place. This is a popular event where competitors challenge themselves to complete a 5 mile course as many times as possible over the 24 hour period. Club long distance runners Julie Giblin and Kim Taylor-Maskell ran in the solo women category along with 86 others. Pacing themselves well and keeping each other motivated, they both completed ten laps of the course, a total of 50 miles, in a running time of 14 hours 41 minutes, and 45th position overall.
In recent Parkrun events, Rachel Tait ran at Prudoe recording 25.48, Henry Anderson was at Fountains Abbey finishing in 22.29, and John Hunter recorded 30.25 at Barrow-in-Furness.
